Speed dating

Speed dating is a formalized matchmaking process or dating system whose purpose is to encourage people to meet a large number of new people. Its origins are credited to Rabbi Yaacov Deyo of Aish HaTorah. originally as a way to help Jewish singles meet and marry. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] SpeedDating . as a single word, is a registered trademark of Aish HaTorah. Speed dating . as two separate words, is often used as a generic term for similar events.

Organization [ edit ]

Usually advance registration is required for speed dating events. Men and women are rotated to meet each other over a series of short "dates" usually lasting from three to eight minutes depending on the organization running the event. At the end of each interval, the organizer rings a bell, clinks a glass, or blows a whistle to signal the participants to move on to the next date. At the end of the event participants submit to the organizers a list of who they would like to provide their contact information to. If there is a match, contact information is forwarded to both parties. Contact information cannot be traded during the initial meeting, in order to reduce pressure to accept or reject a suitor to his or her face.

There are many speed dating events now in the United Kingdom. Canada. and the United States. Requirements for each event vary with the organizer. Specific age range based on gender is a common restriction for events. Many speed dating events are targeted at particular communities: for example, LGBT people, polyamorists. [ 4 ] Christians. [ 5 ] Graduate student speed dating events are common. [ 6 ]

Practice [ edit ]

Some feel that speed dating has some obvious advantages over most other venues for meeting people, such as bars, discotheques. etc. in that everybody is purportedly there to meet someone, they are grouped into compatible age ranges, it is time-efficient, and the structured interaction eliminates the need to introduce oneself. Unlike many bars, a speed dating event will, by necessity, be quiet enough for people to talk comfortably. Speed dating is for singles.

Participants can come alone without feeling out of place; alternatively it is something that women who like to go out in groups can do together. [ 7 ]

Because the matching itself happens after the event, people do not feel pressured to select or reject each other in person. On the other hand, feedback and gratification are delayed as participants must wait a day or two for their results to come in.

The time limit ensures that a participant will not be stuck with a boorish match for very long, and prevents participants from monopolizing one another's time. On the other hand, a couple that decides they are incompatible early on will have to sit together for the duration of the round.

Most speed dating events match people at random, and participants will meet different "types" that they might not normally talk to in a club. On the other hand, the random matching precludes the various cues, such as eye contact, that people use in bars to preselect each other before chatting them up.

Online speed dating [ edit ]

Several online dating services offer online speed dating where users meet online for video, audio or text chats. The advantage of online speed dating is that users can go on dates from home as it can be done from any internet enabled computer. The disadvantage is people do not actually meet one another.

Scientific research [ edit ]

There have been several studies of the round-robin dating systems themselves, as well as studies of interpersonal attraction that are relevant to these events. Other studies found speed-dating data useful as a way to observe individual choices among random participants.

First impressions [ edit ]

A 2005 study at the University of Pennsylvania of multiple HurryDate speed dating events found that most people made their choices within the first three seconds of meeting. Furthermore, issues such as religion, previous marriages, and smoking habits were found to play much less of a role than expected. [ 8 ] [ 9 ]

A 2006 study in Edinburgh, Scotland showed that 45% of the women participants in a speed-dating event and 22% of the men had come to a decision within the first 30 seconds. It also found that dialogue concerning travel resulted in more matches than dialogue about films. [ 10 ]

In a 2012 study, researchers found that activation of specific brain regions while viewing images of opposite-sex speed dating participants was predictive of whether or not a participant would later pursue or reject the viewed participants at an actual speed dating event. Men and women made decisions in a similar manner which incorporated the physical attractiveness and likability of the viewed participants in their evaluation. [ 11 ]

Subconscious preferences [ edit ]

Malcolm Gladwell 's book on split-second decision making, Blink , introduces two professors at Columbia University who run speed-dating events. Drs. Sheena Iyengar and Raymond Fisman found, from having the participants fill out questionnaires, that what people said they wanted in an ideal mate did not match their subconscious preferences. [ 12 ] [ 13 ]

Olfaction and the MHC [ edit ]

A 1995 study at the University of Bern showed that women appear to be attracted to the smell of men who have different MHC profiles from their own, and that oral contraceptives reversed this effect. [ 14 ]

The MHC is a region of the human genome involved with immune function. Because parents with more diverse MHC profiles would be expected to produce offspring with stronger immune systems. dissimilar MHC may play a role in sexual selection.

A speed "date" lasting several minutes should be long enough for the MHC hypothesis to come into play, provided the participants are seated close enough together. [ citation needed ]

Olfaction and pheromones [ edit ]

The TV newsmagazine 20/20 once sent both a male and a female set of twins to a speed dating event. One of each set was wearing pheromones. and the ones wearing pheromones received more matches. [ 15 ]

Age and height preference [ edit ]

A 2006 study by Michele Belot and Marco Francesconi into the relative effects of preference versus opportunity in mate selection showed, while concluding that opportunity was more important than preference, that a woman's age is the single most important factor determining demand by men. [ 16 ] Although less important than it is to men, age is still a highly significant factor determining demand by women.

The same study found that a man's height had a significant impact upon his desirability, with a reduction in height causing a decrease in desirability at the rate of 5% per inch.

Selectivity [ edit ]

Studies of speed dating events generally show more selectivity among women than among men. For instance, the Penn study reported that the average man was chosen by 34% of the women and the average woman was chosen by 49% of the men. [ 8 ] New studies suggest that the selectivity is based on which gender is seated and which is rotating. This new study showed that when men were seated and the women rotated, the men were more selective. [ 17 ]

Spin-offs [ edit ]

The popularity or charm of speed dating has led to at least one offspring: Speed Networking. A structured way of running business networking events with the goal of making meeting potential business contacts easier and more productive. Some speed dating companies have now started offering free speed dating where you do not pay unless you meet somebody you like.

Business speed dating has also been used in China as a way for business people to meet each other and to decide if they have similar business objectives and synergies. [ citation needed ] Speed dating offers participating investors and companies an opportunity to have focused private meetings with targeted groups in a compact time frame.

Dating

Dating is a part of human mating process whereby two people meet socially for companionship. beyond the level of friendship. or with the aim of each assessing the other's suitability as a partner in an intimate relationship or marriage. It can be a form of courtship consisting of social activities done by the couple. While the term has several meanings, it usually refers to the act of meeting and engaging in some mutually agreed upon social activity in public, together, as a couple.

History [ edit ]

Dating as an institution is a relatively recent phenomenon which has mainly emerged in the last few centuries. From the standpoint of anthropology and sociology. dating is linked with other institutions such as marriage and the family which have also been changing rapidly and which have been subject to many forces, including advances in technology and medicine. As humans have evolved from hunter-gatherers into civilized societies and more recently into modern societies, there have been substantial changes in the relationship between men and women, with perhaps the only biological constant being that both adult women and men must have sexual intercourse for human procreation to happen. [ 3 ]

Humans have been compared to other species in terms of sexual behavior. Neurobiologist Robert Sapolsky constructed a reproductive spectrum with opposite poles being tournament species. in which males compete fiercely for reproductive privileges with females, and pair bond arrangements, in which a male and female will bond for life. [ 4 ] According to Sapolsky, humans are somewhat in the middle of this spectrum, in the sense that humans form pair bonds, but there is the possibility of cheating or changing partners. [ 4 ] These species-particular behavior patterns provide a context for aspects of human reproduction. including dating. However, one particularity of the human species is that pair bonds are often formed without necessarily having the intention of reproduction. In modern times, emphasis on the institution of marriage, generally described as a male-female bond, has obscured pair bonds formed by same-sex and transsexual couples, and that many heterosexual couples also bond for life without offspring, or that often pairs that do have offspring separate. Thus, the concept of marriage is changing widely in many countries.

Historically, marriages in most societies were arranged by parents and older relatives with the goal not being love but legacy and "economic stability and political alliances", according to anthropologists. [ 5 ] Accordingly, there was little need for a temporary trial period such as dating before a permanent community-recognized union was formed between a man and a woman. While pair-bonds of varying forms were recognized by most societies as acceptable social arrangements, marriage was reserved for heterosexual pairings and had a transactional nature, where wives were in many cases a form of property being exchanged between father and husband, and who would have to serve the function of reproduction. Communities exerted pressure on people to form pair-bonds in places such as Europe ; in China. according to sociologist Tang Can, society "demanded people get married before having a sexual relationship" [ 6 ] and many societies found that some formally recognized bond between a man and a woman was the best way of rearing and educating children as well as helping to avoid conflicts and misunderstandings regarding competition for mates.

Though they instantly clashed, sparks of another sort began to fly, leading both to danger and a hint of romance as Castle stepped in to help find the copycat killer. Once that initial case was solved, Castle and Beckett continued to investigate strange homicides in New York, combining Castle's writer intuition and Beckett's creative detective work. Tim Allen returns for a fourth season as “ Mike Baxter ” in Last Man Standing . a show about everything that families are dealing with today – all filtered through the blunt “man’s man” comedy of an iconic American dad. Mike continues to be surrounded by forces seeking to challenge his ideas on just about everything in which he strongly believes.

Mike and his wife, Vanessa . a geologist considering a career change, live with their three daughters in Denver, Colorado. They find themselves tussling with the ongoing parenting dilemma: How much can they continue to influence their kids as they grow up and move on?

Since his seven-year-old grandson, Boyd . moved out of the Baxter home with his mom, oldest daughter Kristin, Mike especially feels the pain of separation. Mike considers Boyd as the other “last man standing” in his life and persists in trying to save the boy from the liberal guidance of his young parents.

Kristin now lives in an apartment in downtown Denver with her son and her baby-daddy, Ryan . It can be a bit of a struggle financially but she and Ryan are determined to raise Boyd their own way, outside of Mike’s well-meaning influence.

As they plan for an upcoming wedding, Kristin and Ryan continue negotiating the terms of their own relationship – one that started off rocky with a high school pregnancy and Ryan skipping town. Ryan has since become a caring spouse and father, but Mike still often sees him as an irresponsible goofball.

Back home, it’s an exciting time of broadening horizons for 20-year-old Mandy Baxter . a sophomore at UC Denver and talented designer with her own clothing business. This new status as an entrepreneur adds to Mandy’s vanity and cheerful self-confidence. Mandy’s sweet relationship with Kyle, who works for her father, continues to blossom.

Like her older sisters, 16-year-old Eve Baxter is also spreading her wings a bit. She, too, is dating – much to Mike’s discomfort. Eve is still a tomboy at heart and active in Junior ROTC. She carries her cocky gung-ho attitude into every project she takes on, which makes papa Mike very proud.

Chuck Larabee . Mike’s frenemy neighbor, continues to take friendly pokes at Mike. Of course, Mike pokes Chuck right back, giving as well as he gets.

Mike tries to escape all the female drama at home in the warm, manly embrace of his job at the Outdoor Man store, a sporting goods emporium where he is marketing director. Mike’s long-time boss and friend, Ed Alzate . continues to provide a slightly warped sounding-board as Mike considers the various thorny issues confronting him at home.

Mike still revels in his Outdoor Man video-blog, which he delightedly uses as a pulpit for his opinions and a voice to appeal to those who agree that manliness is under assault. When he’s supposed to be selling mountain bikes or kayaks, for some reason he always ends up spouting off about the environment, Obamacare, international politics or any other topic occupying his mind.

“Last Man Standing” stars Tim Allen as Mike Baxter, Nancy Travis as Vanessa Baxter, Molly Ephraim as Mandy Baxter, Kaitlyn Dever as Eve Baxter, Amanda Fuller as Kristin Baxter, Jordan Masterson as Ryan Vogelson, Christoph Sanders as Kyle Anderson, Flynn Morrison as Boyd Baxter, Jonathan Adams as Chuck Larabee and Hector Elizondo as Ed Alzate.

Manhattan Love Story . a new romantic comedy airing Tuesdays this fall, is based on this simple premise: The only way to maintain relationships—with lovers, spouses, family, co-workers, or friends—is to keep most of our thoughts to ourselves. At the heart of the story are Dana (Analeigh Tipton, Crazy, Stupid, Love ) and Peter (Jake McDorman, ABC Family's Greek . Shameless ) a couple navigating the complicated terrain of a modern day relationship. The audience will hear Dana and Peter's inner thoughts, highlighting the differences of men and women as this couple traverses the highs and lows of dating.

Dana grew up in a small town with her sights set on New York. She romanticizes about life in the big city and her polite, sweet nature is often misinterpreted as naiveté, but she is a smart girl who is generally one step ahead of those who dismiss her. Peter, on the other hand, grew up in New York and feels that he has seen and done everything the city has to offer. While Dana is determined to succeed in New York in both business and love, Peter is perfectly content to go on dating his way through Manhattan.

Peter's wealthy sister-in-law and Dana's college roommate, Amy (Jade Catta-Preta), is a dilettante in the sense that she has a thousand different passions, and unique because she masters each of them. Her husband, David (Nicolas Wright), is Peter's brother who loves his wife and money. David is more than happy to let Amy take the reins of his life because, after all, she's doing a better job of running it than he ever would.

Chloe (Chloe Wepper) is Peter and David's half-sister from their father's third marriage. Like David, Chloe is not afraid to say what she thinks and unlike David, what she has to say is actually perceptive and intelligent. William (Kurt Fuller), the kids' father, is incapable of understanding that he's wrong about anything. He loves being the authority figure, and since all of his children work for him, he's never had one moment in his adult life when they haven't had to do what he has wanted.

Filmed in New York, Manhattan Love Story stars Analeigh Tipton as Dana, Jake McDorman as Peter, Nicolas Wright as David, Jade Catta-Preta as Amy, Chloe Wepper as Chloe and Kurt Fuller as William.

"Music City” can mean so many things to different people. In Nashville, musicians and songwriters are at the heart of the storms driven by their own ambitions. Some are fueled by their creativity and passion for fame, others struggle to cope with the pressures of success and doing everything in their power to stay on top.

Music legend Rayna Jaymes reigns as the Queen of Country, but after two decades, her grip on the throne is slipping. Rayna refuses to be steamrolled by her record label as they present a new arrangement. And in the face of an evolving industry, Rayna is struggling to adapt and reinvent herself, which she must do if she plans to stay relevant.

Juliette Barnes is sexy, sassy, and trails trouble in her wake— she’s also the country’s #1 crossover artist. In her climb to the top, Juliette's public image is threatened by circumstances she struggles to control. And while she is determined to sit on Rayna's throne, Juliette refuses to deal with her difficult past.

Offstage, things aren't much smoother for Rayna. Her father, Lamar Wyatt, Nashville's most influential businessman, continues to complicate her life. Their strained relationship is defined by years of resentment and secrets that come to a head when Lamar and Rayna’s sister, Tandy, push Rayna's husband to run for mayor. For husband Teddy Conrad . this marks an opportunity to share the spotlight with his wife instead of continuing to be the man behind the woman.

The city of Nashville is the stage for many hopefuls: Deacon Claybourne . Rayna's longtime bandleader whose unrequited love for Rayna prevents him from claiming success if he went on his own. Scarlett O'Connor . the beautiful and gifted songwriter, who's here to support her boyfriend Avery's talent while still unsure of her own. Avery Barkley, a struggling alt-country musician, who can't help but feel left behind when his girlfriend Scarlett's songs have a chance to find an audience before his own. And Gunnar Scott . a wholesome up-and-coming crooner, who finds a musical soulmate in Scarlett, coming in between her relationship with Avery.

Rayna survives the horrific car crash that left her fighting for her life. She embarks on a battle with Jeff Fordham, the slimy new head of Edgehill Records. The guy steals Will Lexington away from Rayna’s Highway 65 label. A war begins.

Juliette Barnes has an affair with the married, Charlie Wentworth. She eventually realizes that the love she’s been searching for is right in front of her in Avery. Juliette’s affair and an out-of-context quote about God makes her persona non grata in Nashville.

Reality TV star Layla Grant enhances her brand by hooking up with Will, who doesn’t want the world to know he’s gay. Gunnar strikes up a relationship with Scarlett’s BFF, Zoey. He makes a name for himself by writing a hit song for superstar Luke Wheeler. As for Will, he becomes suicidal after sleeping with Jeff Fordham’s former right-hand man, Brent. Fortunately, Gunnar is there to help his pal through.

Deacon overcomes his addiction issues. The truth comes out that he’s Maddie’s real father. The entire family effectively neutralizes the media stir, but Teddy worries he’s losing his daughter. He has no idea that his lover, Peggy, suffered a miscarriage. The two marry, but Peggy is gunned down by a man who was targeting the mayor.

Rayna’s sister, Tandy, goes in cahoots with the feds to take down her father. She believes Lamar was responsible for her mother’s death. This causes much friction between Tandy and Rayna. Lamar passes away while threatening Teddy, who finds comfort for his own grief with Megan, the woman who was dating Deacon.

Juliette joins Rayna’s Highway 65 label. These two music superstars must learn to get along if there’s any chance for success. The label’s other artist, a pill-popping Scarlett, has a major meltdown onstage. She bows out of the spotlight, but will it be forever?

Jeff Fordham has sex with an intoxicated Juliette, who now wonders if she’s lost Avery. Rayna accepts Luke Wheeler's marriage proposal in the middle of a concert. A short time later, Deacon hands her the engagement ring he gave her many years ago. The next move is all on Rayna.

SUNDAYS 8|7c

This is Fairy Tale Land. It's filled with magic, monsters and all of the characters we all know from stories growing up. It's real, and so are the people in it. But unlike the "happily ever after" you may have heard about, their stories continued, and The Evil Queen cast a Dark Curse over the land.

This is Storybrooke. It's a quiet, little, New England town filled with people who go about their everyday lives with no idea who they really are. The Queen's Curse has trapped them here and placed her in near-complete control. They have no real memories and no real hope.

Once Upon A Time is, at its core, a story about hope.

"For us, that’s what a fairy tale is. It’s that ability to think your life will get better. It’s why you buy a lottery ticket—because if you win you get to tell your boss that you’re quitting and you get to move to Paris or wherever and be who you always wanted to be. And that’s Cinderella, right? One day she’s sweeping up and the next she’s going to the ball. Adam and I just wanted to write about something hopeful that for one hour a week allows one to put everything aside and have that feeling that your dreams just may come true."

- Edward Kitsis, Co-Creator/Executive Producer

About Season 1: Emma Swan’s life has been anything but a fairytale. A 28-year-old bail bondsperson, she’s been taking care of herself since she was abandoned as a baby. But when Henry—the son she gave up 10 years ago—finds her, everything changes. Henry is desperate for his mom’s help and thinks that Emma is actually the long, lost daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming. Yes, the actual Snow White and Prince Charming. Even stranger, Henry believes that Storybrooke, the sleepy New England town he calls home, is really part of a curse cast by the Evil Queen, freezing fairytale characters in the modern world with no memory of their former selves.

Of course the seen-it-all Emma doesn’t believe a word, but when she gets to Storybrooke, she can’t help sensing that everything’s not quite what it seems. As Henry shows Emma around with the help of his fairytale book, the town, and its inhabitants like Henry’s therapist Archie Hopper and the enigmatic Mr. Gold, seem just strange enough to set off her already suspicious nature. She becomes even more concerned for Henry when she meets his adopted mother, Regina, who he suspects is none other than the Evil Queen herself!

Storybrooke is a place where magic has been forgotten—but is still powerfully close—and happily ever after seems just out of reach. In order to understand where the fairytale world’s former inhabitants came from, and what ultimately led to the Evil Queen’s wrath, you’ll need a glimpse into their previous lives. But it might just turn everything you’ve ever believed about these characters upside-down. Meanwhile, the epic battle for the future of all worlds, modern and fairytale alike, is about to begin. For good to win, Emma will have to accept her destiny and fight like hell. For detailed recaps please visit Once Upon a Time's Season 1 Episode Guide .

About Season 2: To ensure that no one in Fairy Tale Land—especially Snow White —had any more "happily ever afters," Evil Queen Regina cast a curse which trapped the fairy tale characters, frozen in time, and brought them into our modern world. Although still alive, they had no knowledge of their former selves and were sleepwalking through life—ageless—for 28 years, until a savior arrived in the form of Emma Swan. Unbeknownst to Emma, she was the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming. who had whisked her out of Fairy Tale Land and into our world as an infant to save her from The Curse. Abandoned as a baby, Emma's life was anything but magical; her last job was as a bail bondsperson, but she mostly drifted without much of a life plan. When her 10-year-old son, Henry —whom she had given up for adoption years earlier—appeared on her doorstep with a book of fairy tales and a wild story about how Emma was the progeny of fairy tale characters trapped in a town called Storybrooke, she thought he was crazy. But curiosity got the better of her, and when she brought Henry back to the town—where Regina. ever the control freak, had made herself mayor and was also Henry's adoptive mother—Emma soon discovered that Storybrooke was more than it seemed. Over time she came to believe the stories were true, began to see cracks in the curse, and was finally able to break it.

Reality and myth were merged as the fairy tale characters began awakening, once The Curse was lifted, and remembered who they were. But to their dismay they were not transported back to fairy tale land. And to make matters worse, Rumplestiltskin —aka Mr. Gold —in an effort to gain the upper hand in his power struggle with Regina, introduced magic into the town. In fairy tales magic has its place, but in our world it can have unfathomable consequences. Now the fairy tale characters must contend with magic in their quest to find a way home, as new fairy tale characters are revealed, old acquaintances are revisited, and some we had come to believe could be trusted will turn against their own kind. About Season 3: Welcome to Storybrooke, Maine, a small town that probably won't show up on your GPS, but it's a magical place to visit. Reality and myth merged after Emma broke Regina's curse, which had deprived the fairytale characters of their memories and trapped them in our modern world. When they finally regained their identities, our heroes were dismayed to discover that they weren't transported back to Fairy Tale Land. To make matters worse, Rumplestiltskin —aka Mr. Gold—decided to escalate his power struggle with Regina by introducing magic into the town. But this is our world, and magic always has a tendency to yield unfathomable consequences.

The first order of business this season was to save Henry. who had been kidnapped and transported through a portal to Neverland. But Neverland was a much darker place than one remembers, and our heroes had to face a foe more powerful than the Dark One himself—Peter Pan. After being tricked and led astray for days—and learning that he was also Rumplestiltskin's father—Pan was defeated and trapped inside Pandora's Box. Our heroes returned to Storybrooke, only to discover that Pan had switched bodies with Henry and was about to enact a curse that would have killed every living soul in town. But after discovering the switch and restoring Henry back into his body, Rumplestiltskin paid the ultimate price by sacrificing his life and killing Pan. In turn, Regina obliterated her original curse, which erased Storybrooke from existence and whisked its residents back to Fairy Tale Land, leaving Emma and Henry together back in our world with pleasant memories—but with no memories of Storybrooke or its residents, and with Storybrooke itself seemingly gone for good. And they all lived happily ever after. Hardly!

All is not well back in the Enchanted Forest when Hook comes calling on Emma in New York City in an attempt to jog her memory so that she can once again help her fairy tale family and friends out of a desperate situation. Everyone she holds dear is in danger as a new foe emerges—the Wicked Witch of the West. Hook now must enlist Emma in an epic struggle that spans worlds: with the highest stakes possible—the fate of her family. No one remembers how they were transported back or the past year they had spent back in Fairy Tale Land. But someone in town is responsible for this curse, and all clues point to the Wicked Witch of the West.

The Wicked Witch, aka Zelena, forced Rumplestiltskin to help her carry out her evil plan. The struggle between them leads to the death of Neal. A trip to Oz reveals that Zelena is Regina’s half-sister. She plots to go back in time to kill Snow White’s mother, whose actions sent her down a wicked path. An epic battle takes place. In the end, Rumplestiltskin kills the Wicked Witch while setting forth the opening of a time portal. Emma and Hook are pulled inside. They return to Storybrooke with a prisoner from a far off place. Regina is crushed to see that it’s Marian, Robin Hood’s first love. Someone else came forth from the time portal. Her name is Elsa. She demonstrates her power to freeze anything as she makes her way toward downtown Storybrooke. For detailed recaps please visit Once Upon a Time's Season 3 Episode Guide .

About Season 4: After defeating Zelena — the Wicked Witch of the West — Emma and Hook were pulled into her time portal, which brought them back to the Enchanted Forest of the past. When they accidentally thwarted the initial meeting of Snow White and Prince Charming, Emma and Hook had to find a way to fix the timeline and get them together, or risk altering their futures and possibly obliterating Emma and Henry's existence; not an easy task to undertake. When Emma was captured by The Evil Queen, she met a female prisoner scheduled to be executed. Upon finding a way to escape, Emma saved the prisoner's life by taking her along. But Hook believed the woman's fate was to die and feared that things could be altered by her continued existence. After successfully getting her parents back on track, Emma, Hook and the prisoner found themselves captured by Rumplestiltskin and imprisoned in a room that contained his most unpredictable magic. With no way to escape, Emma discovered that her own magic had returned, and she was able to whisk herself, Hook and the prisoner back to present day Storybrooke. Upon their joyous return, Emma learned that the prisoner was none other than Robin Hood's wife, Marian, who was presumed dead in the previous timeline. Regina and Robin Hood had begun to fall madly in love with one another, but with Marian's return, their relationship could be in danger. And, unbeknownst to anyone, Emma and Hook also brought back Elsa.

You never give up on the people you love.

The Storybrooke residents do not know what Elsa has in store for them. Back in the past, in Elsa's kingdom of Arendelle, we will discover what happened to her, her sister Anna and Kristoff, and how and why Elsa became a prisoner of Rumplestiltskin.

And now that Emma has brought back Robin Hood's wife, Marian, and possibly sparked the end of Regina's relationship with him, will she return to her old, evil ways and do everything in her power to get even? And newlyweds Belle and Rumplestiltskin continue to be deeply in love with each other. But Rumple is hiding a secret from Belle -- one that, if found out, could destroy their happiness - he continues to be the master of the dagger that calls upon him to be the Dark One. Can Emma and Hook commit to one another, and can these two damaged people take their love to the next level?

Mary Margaret and David have a new baby, Prince Neal, and are looking forward to raising him into a proud, brave and loving adult. But they are still sad that they were not able to do this with Emma, instead helping her escape the curse when she was first born and not meeting her again until she was 28 years old.

Henry is very happy to have both of his mothers back in Storybrooke. But with biological mom Emma and paternal grandfather Rumplestiltskin's blood running through his veins, he will be tested by both the light and the darkness.

Finally, Will Scarlet (Michael Socha, "Once Upon a Time in Wonderland"), a former member of Robin Hood's band of Merry Men, has traveled across many lands to make his way to Storybrooke. He finds himself intertwined in the goings-on in town for the first time as his mysterious past pushes him to an unknown future.

As the season continues, new fairy tale characters will be revealed and old acquaintances will be revisited. But not everyone can be trusted.

Speaking of Fitz, Mellie can’t take his obsession with Olivia any longer, so she tells the world her husband had an extramarital affair. He turns over the only rigging evidence to Cyrus in exchange for a job as U. S. Attorney of DC. As for Olivia, she is shocked when she’s fingered as the president’s mistress. She’s rescued from the aggressive press by Jake Ballard’s mysterious, dangerous boss. His name is Rowan. But Olivia Pope only knows him as “Dad.”

News that Olivia is Fitz’s mistress is “handled” when a White House employee takes the fall. Olivia goes to work on the presidential re-election campaign. Jake is released by B613 to later become the head of the organization. The man who was in charge, Rowan/Eli/Papa Pope, eventually reveals the truth about Operation Remington and Liv’s terrorist mom, Maya. Olivia can’t deny her passion for Fitz, who brings her to Vermont to show her the dream. This is where she’d make jam. Back in the real world, Olivia strikes up a fake relationship with Jake that leads to some real passion.

Flashbacks show that Big Jerry Grant raped Mellie, who has an affair with Fitz’s V. P. candidate, Andrew. Cyrus Beene’s plan to bring down Sally Langston by throwing James at Daniel Douglas backfires. The V. P. overcomes the guilt of murdering her hubby to run against Fitz for the presidency. Huck engages in some teeth-pulling torture when he learns Quinn betrayed Olivia. These two eventually lick and make up. Charlie exacts revenge by letting Huck know where his family is. Jake kills James and others in the name of B613, which is, indeed, brought down by Olivia until her dad reclaims his Command position. Jake gives David the proof he needs to take them down again. Fitz wins the election after a calculated tragedy takes his son. He can’t be with Olivia, who has left her post as head of OPA to fly off into the unknown with Jake by her side.

It's just not the same with out John.

11 December 2003 | by sardid007 (Melbourne, Australia) – See all my reviews

I am a typical young Australian bloke. One night I was sitting by the TV with, actually a coke in my hand. I'm channel surfing' past friends, everybody loves Raymond, Sienfield, And I'm thinking, "Why is my TV filled with American sit com crap. So I switched off. It's now 7.30 and new shows will be on now.

WOW! There's a hot blonde chick!

What first got me into 8 simple rules.

I started to watch this show even if the background laughing did annoy me. I honestly couldn't believe I just watched a sitcom. Over the next few months I was hooked into my couch on Saturday nights at 7.30. The show related to me in many ways, and the parents were portrayed perfectly. And above all, the show was funny. Watching this sitcom I gave others a chance, I now enjoy, "My wife and kids" and "Friends", but there's still some I hate.

Months later I heard of John Ritter's unexpected death. It was the first time I had been upset with anyone famous dieing, because I felt I was connected with the show. Now I find it hard to watch the show, and currently the network is showing older episodes with John still in it. For some reason now it doesn't feel right. And now I honestly think the show should now rest in piece.

How ever of course If you have never seen the show I suggest you do. It is a great show with original comedy. 8/10 for its time.
