The Cold Case Network

The stark reality is that the number of unsolved cases in America is on the rise. Unlike television, solutions seldom come from a single law enforcement agency. Rather, it is a combination of law enforcement, families, experts and the general public that lead to a solution. That is where the Cold Case Network comes in.

We elicit the assistance of a private network of experts in a variety of forensic fields, along with input from the general public and law enforcement.

The Cold Case Network is a site designed to assist in taking a new look at cold cases.

We do not accept all cases, and we do review all submitted cases to determine if inclusion into our database will be beneficial. Anyone requesting an inclusion should be prepared to provide as much information and documentation as possible for our review process.

Please note that acceptance of any case does not indicate or warrant, in any manner, that we can provide a solution. While we will work diligently on all cases we accept, we do not always reach a solution.

We are not associated with any law enforcement agency, although we will work closely with the responsible law enforcement if we accept a case.

Our panel of experts donate their time to assist in bring to close these cold cases. Neither the experts or the Cold Case Network accepts or solicits funds.

We invite you to look through our case files and feel free to discuss them openly on our site’s forum.

Background [ edit ]

Abbott was born and raised in Huntington Beach, California. Abbott began wrestling when he was nine years old, and continued through high school where he also played football. He then continued wrestling in college, where he was a NJCAA All-American before dropping out. Abbott is mainly known for the countless street fights that he has engaged in, rarely losing, and also has experience in boxing. While working at a liquor store to help pay for his college tuition, Abbott encountered a "smart-ass" customer. Abbott beat the customer severely, and the customer, who turned out to be a son of a detective, pressed charges for assault. Abbott spent six months in jail, the judge saying "Mr. Abbott, you are a maniac. I'm surprised you haven't killed somebody." [ 1 ]

Mixed martial arts career (1995–1998) [ edit ]

Abbott was a frequent participant in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Abbott made his professional mixed martial arts debut in 1995 at UFC 6 Clash of the Titans in Casper, Wyoming. In his opening fight, he knocked out the Hawaiian fighter John Matua. who weighed 400 lb, in just 18 seconds. [ 2 ] Later that night he fought Russian fighter Oleg Taktarov for over 17 minutes before succumbing to a rear naked choke. [ 3 ] [1] Both men collapsed in exhaustion after the fight, and Taktarov had to be carried out of the cage. [ 3 ] In his first 4 UFC tournament appearances, Abbott advanced at least 1 round in all of them. Around the same time the UFC began switching away from the tournament format, his fortunes declined, as he won only 2 of 5 bouts in '97-'98 before retiring from MMA.

Acting career [ edit ]

In 1997, Abbott appeared as a UFC fighter in the TV show Friends . [ 4 ] defeating Jon Favreau 's character, the millionaire Pete Becker, who was dating Monica at the time. He appeared as himself in the 2013 web series Black Dynamite Teaches a Hard Way! . where a Black Dynamite mannequin teaches him what to do in case of an earthquake. [ 5 ]

Professional wrestling career (1999–2000) [ edit ]

Abbott worked as a professional wrestler with World Championship Wrestling (WCW); [ 6 ] initially he was brought in as an opponent for Goldberg. [ 6 ] on the understanding he was a "legitimate" fighter—who could render any opponent unconscious with a single punch, which became his wrestling finisher, 'The Phantom Right'—and could boost Goldberg's reputation. This feud. however, never developed.

Mere days prior to the Souled Out pay-per-view in 2000, WCW head writer Vince Russo was given the responsibility of booking a match to crown a new WCW World Heavyweight Champion. This came at the news that both WCW Champion Bret Hart and Jeff Jarrett. two of the company's top performers, were injured and could not participate at the event. To the dismay of company officials, Russo suggested having the mid-card Abbott win the Championship albeit only to hold it briefly. The scenario would not take place, and Russo was consequently released from WCW while other bookers composed the Souled Out card. Abbott instead faced Jerry Flynn. a legitimate black belt in taekwondo and defeated him at the pay-per-view .

He was then featured in segments with the boy band parody stable. 3 Count as their "biggest fan". [ 7 ] He began feuding with the stable after they would not let him join the band; the feud ended when Abbott was released from WCW. [ 7 ]

Mixed martial arts career (2003–present) [ edit ]

Abbott waged an unsuccessful UFC comeback in the mid-2000s, losing fights to Frank Mir. Kimo Leopoldo and Wesley "Cabbage" Correira. He later defeated Cabbage by KO in a rematch in what is in fact the only time Cabbage has ever been knocked out. Abbott would lose several more matches in regional shows.

In February 2008, he had a first round knockout loss to Kimbo Slice at Elite XC's Street Certified event. [ 1 ]

His next fight against former PRIDE veteran Mike Bourke on February 13, 2009 at The Selland Arena in Fresno. California—was a part of the Valentine's Eve Massacre Event. Abbott controversially knocked out Bourke with a punch that inadvertently landed in the back of Bourke's head, Abbott secured a victory for the first time in nearly four years.

In 2011 Abbott participated in an unsanctioned "backyard brawl" with Scott Ferrozzo. The two men previously fought at UFC 11 .

At King of the Cage: Fighting Legends, on Saturday, April 13, 2013, Abbott was defeated by longtime veteran Ruben "Warpath" Villareal by way of a 2nd round TKO. After the loss, his first sanctioned fight since 2009, Tank said that he was not sure if he would fight again but he had trained seriously for the first time in years, felt great, and had a lot of fun stepping back in the cage. He thanked Warpath and the two men shook hands. As he was leaving the cage Tank said that he was "starting to feel a little old".

Nickname [ edit ]

Abbott claims his nickname of "Tank" was given to him by UFC officials after the character of "Tank Murdock" from the 1978 Clint Eastwood movie Every Which Way but Loose . [ citation needed ]

Championships and accomplishments [ edit ]

Dating A Friend’s Ex: Would You?

Saying you’ll never date a friend’s ex is like saying you’ll never kill. Trust me, if there’s a gun between you and a rapist and you’re given half a chance to shoot, you will shoot and you will kill. Kinda extreme and not planned … just like love. You don’t plan it but when it hits you, it hits you hard and if it’s real love… then oh boy, you’ll fall for the last person you ever imagined.

Someone who was watching Muvhango the other day tweeted that friends don’t do friends’ exes and I replied to that with “It depends”. The reaction and judgment as a result was crazy. But honestly, would I date a friend’s ex? It depends…

… when did they date?

Imagine you meet, become friends and later fall in love with someone who is close to everything you’ve ever wanted in a man/woman. You really want to be with this person but just as you tell your friend about them, you find out that they dated in high school. So, you won’t date the girl/guy because he/ she is your friend’s ex? I say it depends…

… . why did they break up?

A definite NO CONSIDERATION is a case where your “potential” lied, cheated and broke your friend’s heart. Even worse if you were the one offering comfort to your friend during that time… bathong, that would be just downright nasty.

But what if your friend is the one who left the ex or cheated, fell out of love & moved on? Would you just discard the thought without even asking your friend how they feel about you dating their ex? Granted, your friend might say it’s okay but not mean it and if you go ahead, you risk losing the friendship. But what if you have been really unlucky in love and you feel this is the one guy that could really make you happy? You would live the rest of your life without ever knowing! So, this is why mina ke I say, it depends…

… Is this new person worth losing a great friendship over?

If you know your friend well you’ll know how he/she feels about their ex so you could, from the beginning, have an idea of how they’d react and I guess a lot of it would depend on the state of their love life at that time. Are they happily in love? Then chances are that your friend won’t mind but I wouldn’t ask my friend who’s nursing a broken heart (by whoever) if she’d mind me dating one of her exes. Tacky, if you ask me, so timing counts.

If you are really curious about this new person then perhaps wait a while, get to know them first before you talk to your friend. Hehehe but then you must be careful that your friend doesn’t find out before you are ready to tell, which is kinda like sneaking around behind their back, when it’s actually not. Of course there’s no way your friend will see it from your point of view so if it comes out you are screwed! Which takes me back to the original question: Is this new person worth losing your friend over? It depends…

…. Did your friend share intimate details of their relationship with you?

If yes then this would be disastrous because firstly, you are going to compare everything s/he did for your friend with how they are with you and secondly you are going into the relationship with pre-conceived ideas of who they are, based on what your friend told you. And shem when it comes to a relationship, we all know there are 3 sides to the story, his, hers and the truth. Where love is concerned, people don’t think straight and the truth comes out laced with emotion. If these people dated way before I met my friend then whether or not I would date them, depends!

Yes, you have to be loyal to your friends and all but surely you first have to look at things in perspective before making decisions you could live to regret forever?

I could go on and on but the bottom line is that you cannot just say “I will never date a friend’s ex”… If you insist to say it then I don’t believe you! You think you won’t do it but the actual truth is that … yep, you guessed right, It depends!

Life is too short to spend with regrets or wondering what could’ve been. Never mind true love, but love nje is hard to come by so all I’m saying is that when I meet a man who loves me unconditionally, tolerates my weaknesses, teaches and empowers me, makes me feel like a princess, loves and respects my family and his, I will not turn my back on him just because he once dated my now-happily in love or married friend.

Would I date a friend’s ex? It depends.

Would you?

Disclaimer: I am not dating a friend’s ex!
